Wedding Tip: 7 Questions to Ask Your Florist, Before You Book

Hey Shannon here!  Today I just wanted to pop on in to give you just a few quick questions to keep in mind when you are meeting with your potential vendors for your big day! Today we are going to be discussing flowers and florists! Let's dive on in! Are ya ready?

Question #1  Do they deliver? If so, how far?

It is important to ask this to know if they will deliver to you even if your venue is further than 10-15 minutes away. Most florists will deliver, but they have a travel fee if it is outside a certain amount of miles.  While it may be okay to have a few vendors traveling to your venue, keep in mind all of this will add up.

Question #2 Have they decorated at cut particular venue before?

This one may not seem like such an important thing to consider, but hiring someone who has experience at your venue before is HUGE. It helps on so many levels such as knowing what works with the space and making sure it isn't overbearing. They also can make suggestions if you are unsure what to do, *especially* at your ceremony  location.

Question #3 How many available bookings do they have for your weekend?

Most, if not all, florists only take a limited number of weddings a weekend. If they only have one or two openings, you might want to make a decision quickly. :)

Question #4 Who will set up?

No matter which consultant you book with, you will want to know who will be able answer your questions: only your consultant or anyone at the shop? Ideally anyone who you contact at the shop should be able to answer your questions, but there are a few exceptions. You want to make sure your vision is executed as clearly as possible, but just like the game "Telephone," eventually the message could get misunderstood.

Question #5 How closely can they match your color scheme?

When you start planning out your day, one of the first few things you decide is your colors. If you're wanting a specific shade of blue or red be sure to mention this to the vendor you meet with. Most florists have done weddings where they have had to work with specific colors and can provide pictures of what it will look like on the specific flowers. Be warry if they say they can match your color scheme exactly! Flowers can be very unpredictable, and, while they can try their hardest to get the color as close as possible, it is not an exact guarantee.

Question #6 How much deposit is required to book?

While this may not seem like a pressing question, it is always something to keep in mind with all of your vendors. Typically they will either require anywhere from 15% - 50% to a specific dollar amount. All vendors will require some deposit to hold your spot because, as mentioned in #3, spots can fill up quickly.

Question #7 When is the final payment due?

Mark this day in your calendar as soon as you book! Depending on the service they offer, some vendors will need the final payment a month before your date, while some can wait until the day before your wedding.
